This morning was cold, the sun was out, it was blue skies but a bit yeh, a bit nippy. I got up to make our coffee and got chatting to a guy from France that was doing a trip on his bike from New Mexico to somewhere in Northern Canada, his plan was very open. Interesting guy, he has walked the Continental Divide twice! He snapped a picture of a fox that was investigating our bike. Just a bit later a White Tailed Deer just went walking past the tent.

We met a couple of other solo travellers planning on doing the divide, the lady Elizabeth that lives in New Mexico is an experienced road tourer was not feeling the off road bike touring style and was thinking of quitting. Hopefully our little chat in the morning encouraged her to maybe stick at it a bit longer as it always takes a few days to find your flow and get into the rhythm of the days.
We made our way to Sparwood we had a coffee and a bite to eat.

After Sparwood we took on some single track into Fernie.

We met a guy that was originally from Scotland, but near enough every single family member, aunts, uncles. Grandparents etc decided to emigrate to Canada. He told us we should do it too and never look back. He snapped the picture at the border into town.

We got into town and had a coffee. We looked in a few outdoor and bike shops and I got some degreasing agent and oil to give the chain a good clean as I was having chain suck issues.

A few days ago I had arranged a Warmshowers for tonight. If you don’t know what that is. It is a website set up by cycle tourers and is a community of cycle tourers that host you if you are in the area, no money exchanges hands it is pure genuine hospitality. Tonight we met Randall and Lisa. Lovely couple. It just so happens that another cyclist called Kathrine was also being hosted by them. We met Katherine a couple of days earlier on the road. She is doing the GDMBR down to Mexico. Katherine made a lovely Dahl curry and rice and Lisa made a beauty stir fry with Tofu. The company and generosity was amazing.

Tomorrow we are making our way to Surveyor Lake to meet Ben and Jen with the pose of kids they have in their possession. It is a cool coincidence that their holiday trailer is right on our route so we can spend a day with them at the lake.
